Hayakal al-Nur
2025
Hayakal al-Nur is a cosmology—a living system of consciousness in form. They are encountered as transmissions: architectures of thought, meditation, and revelation. Each composition opens a contemplative space, a vibrational field where structure and fluidity hold each other in perfect tension.
Born from a long devotion to the 22 bones of the human skull (The Bone Drawings, 2007–2020), this series has emerged through many iterations—each refinement a deepening, each loss a clearing toward essential forms. The works exist in a constant state of expansion and contraction: singularities that contain multitudes, patterns that resist stasis even as they repeat.
Hayakal al-Nur Series I marks the inception of a lifelong cosmology. Each iteration emerges digitally first, before being hand-executed into large-scale graphite drawings. This page documents the growing archive of this cosmology. Series I comprises 74 drawings.
Beyond Drawing: The Visual Manifestation of Intelligence
Hayakal al-Nur are visual architectures of intelligence. Their interwoven, seemingly chaotic lines are governed by an unseen logic that reveals itself through contemplation. Like fractals or constellations, these drawings contain both microcosmic and macrocosmic structures of thought, collapsing time, memory, and perception into visible form.
Meditative Objects, Infinite Structures
Each piece is a meditative field, an object of deep seeing where stillness sharpens the mind and perception expands beyond thought, offering a moment of pure recognition: portals, transmissions, living geometries—unfolding in the mind of the viewer, refracting meaning and clarity with each return.
Genealogy
The origins of Hayakal al-Nur can be traced to a series of 11 small drawings created in 2017. They marked the emergence of a structural alphabet drawn from the artist’s Ossuary Archive, carrying within them the genetic memory of the cosmology to come.
The title is taken from Suhrawardi’s luminous treatise Hayakal al-Nur (The Shapes of Light), a metaphysical exploration of light as the foundational structure of reality.
