This series borrows its title from Suhrawardi’s treatise Hayakal al-Nur, (The Shape of Light), on the shapes, forms, and appearances of Divine Light, in its relation to the nature and levels of the human soul. The drawings are composed of the layering and multiplying of the artist’s ossuary alphabet created in earlier drawings, to create large tapestries of abstract forms and different intensities. Hayakal al-Nur are meant to function as spaces for visual meditation.
