Deer in the Headlights (2015)
Public sculpture, polyester resin, metal, enamel paint
Dimensions: metal stand: 123 x 140 cm; gazelle skull: 250 x 110 cm

Deer in the Headlights is a site-specific public sculpture based on the anatomy of a mountain gazelle’s skull. The work recreates the unsettling event of encountering a body out of place, a sudden, frozen presence between recognition and alarm. Commissioned by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) for the public art project “InVisible”. The sculpture was first unveiled in Al Shindagha Historic District, Dubai, in November 2015. It was later adopted by Maraya Art Center in Sharjah.
