Variations on a Blue Star is a site-specific collaboration with Swiss artist Davide Cascio, staged as an intervention inside an iconic building on Emad Eddine Street, in Downtown Cairo. The project combined Cascio’s interest in Islamic geometric patterns with Aly’s exploration of anatomy and form. Merging the modular abstraction of Islamic ornament with the mirrored symmetry of bodily structures, the work created a meditative threshold space–simultaneously architectural and corporeal. The work was commissioned by Pro Helvetia Cairo.
